Blog About Your Media Company Research

My group’s media company was Walt Disney Studios and our smaller production company was Pixar Animation studios.

When it came to our media company research we split up the work between everyone and I focused on the origins of Pixar and the major films. When researching Pixar I learned about how it came to be and how it was founded. I also learned that it started as a hardware company called the graphics group, but the venture was unsuccessful so they started to create CGI animation. Pixar first started out by doing commercials for other companies but ever since their first release of a full animated film being Toy Story they focused on many different films.
This is a photo from an old Pixar                                                  advertisement for Coca-Cola.

This is the poster for Toy Story which was Pixar's fist animated film and was a humongous hit.

Although the work was split up I still did learn about Walt Disney Studios and how that production company came to be as well. I mainly learned about how Disney focused on animation films and is now moving towards more live action films. Disney is even making live action films of there old animated productions.

One main thing I noticed is that Disney branches out when buying up other companies like the difference in animation from Pixar from hand drawn to CGI animation or to the move to action movies like the Marvel films and even the Star Wars universe. Now although they branch out something stays the same and that is, that all these productions like Pixar or Marvel or Lucasfilm's being bought up by Disney are still able to be accessed and relatively appropriate for children as that was the goal from the very beginning.
